Book #21: Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Okay. So I read this book finally in an effort to be culturally relevant and because my friend MauratheLibrarian is having an adult book group about this book in a few weeks and I don’t like being left out, you know? This book defied my expectations, in that, mostly I had mistakenly believed this book was Harry Potter with vampires. Ha. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Lest you are misled, the first novel in Meyer’s series is a teenage love story. In many ways, this story is infuriating mainly because Bella, the antagonist of the story, is obsessively in love with Edward the vampire and the author never offers any reason why except that Edward is “dazzling” in his beauty. Yes, he literally sparkles, my friends. I thought the first 2/3 of this book were insufferably slow on plot and character development. Its mostly just the ramblings of obsessive “love” from a teenage girl. That said, I look forward to reading the next book in the series with the hopes that there’s less teen girl blathering and more action adventure.
